On Thursday August 4, a new chapter in local high school education was written as Brenda Corley, principal, Dr. Marvin Arnsdorff, chairman, and Linda Page, mayor of the Town of Mount Pleasant, and other town officials, students and parents attended the offical groundbreaking for the new Oceanside Collegiate Academy.
Located in the Carolina Park community, Oceanside Collegiate Academy (OCA) is a unique charter high school combining a rigorous academic curriculum and a high-level athletic program. As a dual-credit high school, OCA offers its students the opportunity to earn up to two years of college credit in a safe, small setting. The school’s athletic program is led by highly qualified coaches and is designed to prepare student athletes for the rigors of university-level sports. The OCA model allows students to attend either a morning or an afternoon academic session focused on the core high school and general education college-level classes.
OCA is the second high school to open in Mt. Pleasant, and joins award-winning Wando High School as a "resident" of Carolina Park. The community is also home to the Wando Center For Advanced Studies and The Children's Center pre-school. A fifth school, Carolina Park Elementary, is also currently under construction and is slated to welcome students in the fall of 2017.
